Overnight Oatmeal

Get a head start with this easy breakfast recommended by the team of Registered Dietitians at Dairy Farmers of Canada for busy families.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups large flake oats 375 mL, oatmeal
  • 2 tsp flaxseed ground, 10 mL
  • 2 1/2 cups milk 625 mL
  • 3 1/2 cups water 875 mL
  • 1/3 cup dried dates diced, 80 mL
  • 1/3 cup dried apples diced, 80 mL
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon 5 mL
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar 80 mL
  • 3 tbsp slivered almonds toasted, 45 mL

Instructions

  • In a re-sealable container, combine the oats, flaxseed, milk and water. Refrigerate overnight. Early in the morning, pour the mixture into a saucepan and add the dried fruit and cinnamon. Cook on low for approximately 15 minutes while stirring often. Add brown sugar and serve with the slivered almonds.
