What would be more appropriate then to awaken to the force? With the Star Wars Cookbook, BB-Ate: Awaken To The Force Of Breakfast And Brunch, author Lara Starr has created an amazing collection of recipes any fan would truly enjoy.
Primarily designed for young Jedi Padawan, I think adults would really enjoy this book as well. In the introduction, there are instructions on getting started, how to Be Careful (respect the mysteries of the force), Be Aware (cultivate the awareness of the Jedi) and the various tools essential to the young Jedi chef.
Even the smallest details are Star Wars related. The quote at the top of the introduction page is “The calm and perceptive mind of a Jedi warrior will enable you to prevent most mishaps in the kitchen. Use it well and follow these general guidelines”. I really think it helps to set the tone for the entire book.
The recipe chapters include:
- Snacks & Sides
- Waffles, Pancakes & French Toast
- Baked Goods
- Sandwiches & Wraps
- Spreads & Toppings
The recipes themselves all have fun Star Wars related names like Luke Skywaffles, Stormtrooper Standoff, and Admiral Ackbars. Because the book is hardcover with a spiral binding, the recipes lie flat when you put the book down which will help a lot in the kitchen when cooking.
Each recipe has an introduction, the ingredients section is in bold which helps differentiate it from the rest of the recipe, and the instructions are very easy to follow. The recipes also tell you how much it makes and mentions any special equipment needed. With only 29 recipes, it is a small collection, but very well done.
A Must-Have Book
Most of the recipes have a full-color, full-page photo of the food, complete with an appropriate action figure. The action figures make the photos so much more fun.
Overall this is a wonderful book if your young Padawan is interested in learning to cook. It is also a must-have for any Star Wars fan of any age.
For the included recipe have decided to go with the first recipe in the book, BB-8 Energy Balls. Enjoy!
- 1 cup rolled oats old-fashioned (100 g)
- 1/2 cup peanut butter smooth or chunky (130 g)
- 1 cup dates chopped (65 g)
- 2 teaspoons orange zest grated
- 2 tablespoons orange juice fresh
- 1/3 cup honey (115 g)
- 1 cup coconut unsweetened shredded (80 g)
- Put the oats, peanut butter, dates, orange zest, orange juice, and honey in the bowl of a food processor or blender. Pulse on medium speed until the ingredients are well combined and form a sticky paste.
- Scoop out the mixture and place it on a lightly floured surface. Roll the mixture into 1 inch (2.5 cm) balls.
- Put the shredded coconut on a plate or in a shallow bowl. Roll each of the balls in the coconut to cover completely.
- Serve immediately or store covered in the refrigerator for up to one week.
