For anyone with a slow cooker, the Fix It And Forget It Cookbook Series has been an absolute staple in your cookbook library. The newest 2017 edition, the “Fix It And Forget It Cookbook – 700 Great Slow Cooker Recipes” is the newest revision of the best-selling book. Starting with a quick welcome and a few tips on how to use your slow cooker effectively this huge tome dives right into the 700 recipes.
The beauty of the recipes in the Fix It And Forget It Collections is that they are home-cook tested. That means that regular everyday people have created or tested these recipes and cooked them over and over again so you know that they’ll turn out exactly as expected.
As with most slow cooker recipes, they are exceptionally easy and with 700 recipes the variety is excellent.

In order to assist you with your recipes, the back of the book has several auxiliary pages with information on Equivalent Measurements, Metric Equivalents, Substitutions and your Must-Have Kitchen Tools. The excellent index not only gives you an alphabetical list of each recipe but also groups items by the main ingredient. For instance, if you have a chocolate craving you just need to look under C for Chocolate to find a list of all of the recipes that include your favorite ingredient.
The recipes themselves are very short, sweet and to the point, as with most slow cooker recipes. They all include the information on how many Servings, Prep Time, Cooking Time, and the ideal size of slow cooker pot to use. Many recipes also come with Serving Suggestions, and Variations. I love variations because that means you can personalize the recipe so much more easily because you know what variations will work. Some of the recipes even come with a little note from the contributor or somebody who’s made the recipe giving tips on how to use the recipe effectively.
Not all of the recipes have a picture, it looks like about one in three recipes have one. I was so happy though to see the pictures are either on the same page with the recipe or they have a lovely nice label. Having the picture show the name of the recipe is so helpful. I hate it when I see pictures in a recipe book of a dish I have never experienced before and I don’t know what I’m looking at therefore I don’t know which recipe to use to make it.
One of my favorite things to do with the slow cooker is Soups. It is especially good when it’s cold out to have a nice warming soup. I was thrilled to find 112 pages of Soups, Stews, & Chilis in this book which means variety!
Your Imagination Is The Limit
But Soups and Stews are not the only things you can make with a slow cooker. Quite literally your imagination is the only limit. This is especially true of the Dessert section where some people might be surprised to find recipes for Cakes, Crumbles, and other tasty delights. With the holiday season coming up the beverage section will be especially helpful with the recipes for Hot Punches, Spiced Coffee, Ciders, and several variations of Wassail.
As always with Fix It And Forget It collections, this book is top-notch. It is an excellent addition to my keeper cookbook library. Because I wanted to try something new, I chose the Slow Cooker Pizza recipe to include below. Enjoy!
