Bread In A Bag

Going camping? You don’t have to miss out on fresh bread just because you are in the middle of nowhere.

Make sure you pack 2 pots (one larger with lid, one smaller and a plastic bag a heavy duty freezer zip-lock bag 11’x11′).

This recipe is even suitable for vegetarians.

Ingredients

  • 2 c. white bread flour
  • 1 c. whole wheat flour
  • 3 tbsp powder milk
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 package rapid rise yeast
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 c. hot water 125 to 130 degree F.
  • extra flour for kneading

Instructions

  • Put ingredients into a heavy-duty freezer zip-lock bag (about 11'x11').
  • Squeeze air out of the bag then shake and work bag with finger to blend all the ingredients.
  • Remove dough from bag and knead on flour surface.
  • Place formed bread back in bag and let it rise for 10 minutes.
  • Fill the larger of the 2 pots with 1 inch of water, then rest the second pot on top of water (this process acts as a heat diffuser).
  • Next, place the bagged bread in the smaller pot and loosely roll down the top of the bag (dont seal it).
  • Put the lid on the larger pot and boil until bread is fully baked (should take 20 to 30 min.). Remove from bag and eat while still warm.
