People with fibromyalgia have to deal with chronic pain, brain fog, fatigue, gastrointestinal discomfort every day. It is a difficult diagnosis to prove and an even more difficult condition to live with. Whether you have recently been diagnosed or have been dealing with fibromyalgia many years, I think this book can help.

Fibromyalgia Freedom! was written by Kathleen Standafer, a registered dietitian nutritionist, and certified LEAP (lifestyle eating and performance) therapist. Standafer has seen firsthand the healing power of specific foods and lifestyle changes. Her introduction to Fibromyalgia Freedom! explains how it can help. See exactly how to optimize your health by eating the right foods, using movement, and changing your mindset. I showed this book to Peggy who has fibromyalgia because I am a bit of a skeptic. Since the book is simple to follow and informative we felt people newly diagnosed with fibromyalgia will especially find it a good first read.

How Food Affects Your Condition

First of all, the fibromyalgia syndrome itself is explained. You learn how food can affect it, good and bad. Chapter two explains the “fibromyalgia diet”, the do’s and don’ts of eating. You even get a list of foods you can use to combat your symptoms instead of drugs. (It isn’t saying ditch the meds but to try some of these foods as a healthy option where possible.) You can learn the exercise and simple routines included because moving will help with your symptoms.

Next begins the 28 Day Meal Plan created to help you get into the “fibro diet” and stick to it. Included are shopping lists and recipes all planned for you. To help you commit to the process, use the Symptom Log, Weekly Symptom Diary, and a Food Symptom Journal. The clear and readable format makes it very easy to follow.

The recipes are easy to follow too because of their descriptions and lists of benefits. Many of the recipes didn’t really seem like diet recipes (except for the salads I guess) since they seemed so delicious. If you didn’t tell them they were healthy, your whole family would likely be quite happy with many of them. Peggy made the Bell Pepper-Asparagus Frittata for her family, they enjoyed it.
